Pechanga tribe threatens to cut off newspaper
The chairman of the Pechanga Band of Mission Indians is threatening cut off business with a California paper that has covered the tribe's enrollment dispute.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise obtained a copy of a letter signed by chairman Marc Macarro that dismissed most of the tribe's enrollment committee. He warned the paper not to publish the letter's contents.
"If the paper goes ahead and does this, we're just going to cut you guys off," Macarro allegedly said in a phone message.
Macarro said the tribe won't respond to request for information and will cut advertising.
This is old news, but it is an example of the type of scare tactics Mark Macarro uses. Local reporters have told me that their inside sources are fearful that they will be disenrolled if found out- decree from Mark.
Additionally, as civic groups, the City, the County and others line up to get their checks, they remember Mark's published words about cutting the PE off. They also take the brush off of "It's an internal matter," to ease their conscience as they cash their checks. |

I know that unfortunately to a lot of people, money talks, and its apparent in this case, who's doing the talking, and who's blindly doing the listenning, which is really sad. Apparently getting a check from the tribe to sugar coat/look the other way, about whats really going on in the tribe and print only half the story, IF THAT, makes the people at the paper feel better about themselves. I wonder, if they found themselves in the same position,or had family in the same situation that we and hundreds more are in, if they'd feel good about what they're doing or appreciate it being done to them? If their civil rights were being stomped on, would they remain silent? I seriously, seriously doubt it. I guess the almighty dollar has them by the pants, so to speak. Too bad they don't have the guts/backbone and are too wimpy/weak to say NO to it all and print what's really going on = stomping on Americans civil rights, stealing what is not theirs, etc. There are plenty of honest people available to tell them the entire truthful story. And good for those tribal members who are telling the truth. Isn't the public entitled to the entire story--the entire truth of the story?? Aren't they obligated to print the truth? Then why aren't they?? I mean, get real, surely Pechanga reservation and casino is not the ONLY source of steady news/payment around--the Riverside/Temecula area is pretty big and theres always all kinds of newsworthy stories to print. Also, if they(the papers) won't tell the entire truth, then isn't it up to us to tell the truth? We should tell anyone and everyone who will listen, mail tons of letters, etc to let the story be heard.
Whats that old saying?? "The pen is mightier than the sword.." ?? Lets find out if theres any truth to that!
Perhaps we should consider contacting those groups who are "benefitting" from financial contributions, etc from Pechanga and letting them know the entire story of whats REALLY going on and where those financial contributions are really coming from and at what cost??? Not to deny them the help they've recieved, but to inform them of the origin of those gifts. Does anyone have a list of those groups, or know where to obtain that info, etc? Sure, its great that the tribe is helping them out, but I wonder how they'd feel about their financial "gifts" once they found out how those "gifts" were being obtained, at that point? Bloodmoney? How would YOU feel if you found out you were receiving financial support from dishonest, corrupt people, and that you were supporting a group that denied rightful members their civil rights, were corrupt in their dealings, yet tried to come off as sparkling clean, etc? I know how I'd feel-- I'd feel total disgust and would want to cut off all ties to them and I know that I would. I'd rather come by my finances honestly an from honest people..To me, money does NOT talk. Sure, its very helpful and fun, but I like to sleep well at night. But thats just me..perhaps others who are getting financial gifts from them find the almighty dollar more appealing and more important and don't care about fellow Americans civil rights,(and possibly theirs in the near future) etc being trampled, etc. How about you?
I'm confident that the truth in this entire matter will see the light of day soon and those who are trying to hide behind the name of the tribe will be "outed" and seen for who and what(and what they're definately NOT)they really are with or without the newspapers help. I'm confident that what they're doing will come to an abrupt halt very soon and that justice will be served. I'm sure of that. |
